Learn More about Phare de Goury

The lighthouse of Goury off Hague’s Cap is located in Normandy. In front of the port of Goury (Auderville), is a listed historic monument. For the mayor of Auderville, Alain Dixneuf, this is a source of pride. The lighthouse is of course a strong symbol of identity as well as the landscapes of the Hague. By order of May 11, 2009, the prefect of Basse-Normandie considered that the lighthouse presented "an interest of art and history because of the quality of its neo-classical architectural composition". This national recognition is an opportunity to look back at the construction of this lighthouse, which was no picnic (between 1834 and 1837).

It is 50 meters high and was designed in Diélette granite stone. The lighthouse was commissioned in 1837 for the "Raz Blanchard", the most powerful tidal current in Europe. Indeed, “Le Phare de Goury” is not only photogenic... It saves lives and boats! It helps sailors facing violent storms to avoid their boats getting wrecked on the shore. Another particularity of the lighthouse is that it was built in the open sea, making its access atypical. You can visit it by boat or... by helicopter! “Le Phare” is registered as a historical monument, becoming one of the main attractions of the Normandy coast. It is also surrounded by an unobstructed view of this magnificent landscape which offers you its most beautiful colors during sunsets. Therefore it is the perfect invitation for your pictures which will mix land and sea in such a soothing place.
